Australian Bureau of Statistics

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is the statistical agency of the Government of Australia. The ABS provides key statistics on a wide range of economic, population, environmental and social issues, to assist and encourage informed decision making, research and discussion within governments and the community.

The data is annual data updated quarterly, and is based on past component data published in Australian Demographic Statistics (cat. no. 3101.0) with the net overseas migration estimate drawing on information provided by the Department of Home Affairs. These data are produced for the population clock only, and do not constitute official ABS projections.

      Net internal and overseas migration estimates by region (SA2 and above) and age, 2016-17 onwards:   Net regional internal migration (RIME) is the net gain or loss of population through the movement of people from one location to another within Australia. Net regional overseas migration (ROME) is the net gain or loss of population through immigration to or emigration from Australia. RIME and ROME are prepared for sub-state regions and capture moves over each financial year from 2016-17 on an annual basis.
