The indicator measures the total amount spent from the annual budget of the EU Member States as well as of the European Commission and the European Investment Bank, in order to contribute to the international 100bn USD commitment for climate finance under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The 21st UNFCCC Conference of the Parties in Paris urged developed-country Parties again to ‘scale up their level of financial support, with a concrete roadmap to achieve the goal of jointly providing USD 100 billion annually by 2020 for mitigation and adaptation and to further provide appropriate technology and capacity-building support.

Heating degree day (HDD) is a weather-based technical index designed to describe the need for the heating energy requirements of buildings. Cooling degree day (CDD) is a weather-based technical index designed to describe the need for the cooling (air-conditioning) requirements of buildings. HDD and CDD are derived from meteorological observations of air temperature, interpolated to regular grids at 25 km resolution for Europe. Calculated gridded HDD and CDD are aggregated and subsequently presented on NUTS 2 level. This dataset includes monthly data as published by the Joint Research Centre's AGRI4CAST Resources Portal. Note that Eurostat is not the producer of the monthly data, but is only re-publishing them. Annual data are calculated as sum of monthly data by Eurostat.

Since high ambient temperatures can lead to negative health outcomes such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat syncope, and heat stroke. Monitoring health conditions associated with extreme heat requires temperature and relative-humidity data at highly resolved spatio-temporal scales. This dataset presents the data on daily estimates of heat index and extreme temperature days during the summer months.
