METI’s mission is to develop Japan’s economy and industry by promoting economic vitality in the private sector and advancing international trade relationships. METI is also responsible for securing stable and efficient supplies of energy and mineral resources for Japan. METI shapes policies for international trade and investment, Abenomics structural reforms, and energy. It also promotes Japanese pop culture worldwide through the Cool Japan Initiative. METI drafts and amends legislation in these areas while enforcing and administering existing laws and regulations.
