Number of convicts by penalties, Georgia

Since May 2005, amendments were made to the Code of Criminal Procedure, envisaging abolishment of investigatory bodies and starting preliminary investigation immediately from the moment of committing crime. Due to this and other reasons the number of registered crimes is increased.

According to the new „Code on Imprisonment” (which entered into force on 1st October, 2010), all persons incarcerated in penitentiary establishements are referred as „Pre-trial and Convicted Inmates”. The same category can also be referred with a general term „Inmates”

Data from 2010 includes the number of fires and arsons in accordance with Decree N1574 of the Minister of Internal Affairs dated December 25, 2009
