Australian Bureau of Statistics

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is the statistical agency of the Government of Australia. The ABS provides key statistics on a wide range of economic, population, environmental and social issues, to assist and encourage informed decision making, research and discussion within governments and the community.

      Estimated Resident Population (ERP) is the official measure of the Australian population. ERP for sub-state regions (including SA2s and LGAs) is published annually, with a reference date of 30 June. Total population estimates for sub-state regions are available approximately nine months after the reference date while age-sex breakdowns are available about 13 months after the reference date.
