The data set covers Monthly and Annual milk COP estimates by State. Estimates since 2010 are based on the 2010 Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS) data from milk producers. Estimates for 2005 through 2009 are based on the 2005 ARMS data from milk producers. Note: Due to a change in the way the National Agricultural Statistic Service (NASS) is reporting agricultural price data, beginning with the January 2015 release of this data product, monthly milk cost of production can no longer be estimated for the month prior to the current release date.  There will now be a two-month lag from the release date. Errata: On May 24, 2017, milk cost and return estimates for 2013 and 2014 in the files, “Milk cost of production by State” were reposted to correct an error in the purchased feed costs used to construct these estimates.  The error was due to revisions in the dairy feed price data that were not incorporated in the index used to reflect 2013 and 2014 prices. These updates are now reflected in the 2013 and 2014 milk cost of production estimates.
